i bou.ght a 99 ranger with the 2.5 automatic and when you put it in drive it takes longer then it should(about 10 seconds) before it engages into drive and when you hit the gas it feels like it slipps a little. when u put in reverse it hesitates a little bit before it goes in gear but not as bad as drive. it shows fluid on the stick and says not to add any if its between the cross marked section. it has fluid on the lower part of the cross marked section about 1/16 of an inch. so im wandering if adding fluid might help and also what modeel trans. this is

I have a 99 ranger with a 2.5 automatic mines done it since ive own it, the owner b4 me had it rebuilt because the pump went out in it, anyways Back to my truck I bought the truck 2yrs ago and the motor had 182k and the trans had just over 100k, well 2yrs later and 20k miles both my trans and my engine r shot, I had a couple trans codes 2 of them I remember high voltage signal from the tcm and open circuit to clutch actuator, what happened is I was getting on the hwy and the clutch actuator didnt shift the trans which cuased the engine to over rev which led to a cracked head and a spun rod bearing, the trans that I have was a 4r44e, which is the same trans u have, if I were u Id go take it to transmission specialist and have them drain it and put fresh fluid in and get the filter changed, but it sounds like ur internal clutchs are failing or the actuator is failing
