I have the slow rolling abs kick on issue. When stopping around 5mph or less the abs kicks on. Its not the rotors like i have read in other posts. I see people saying to clean the abs sensor. My question is how? Looks like the sensor is built into the hub. There is a allen bolt there so does this sensor come out? There is no abs light, no fault codes, i beleive it just needs cleaned or something. I also read something about checking the ohms. I checked both front they are sitting at .42 on right .44 on left the back center is sitting at 1.91. No idea if that helps. New brakes. new rotors, no air in the lines, replaced rear wheel cylinders

The sensor should be removable, but before you do that check the tone ring for cracks and broken teeth, if anything is found replace the tone ring, if you are dead set on taking the sensor out be careful, use lots of penetrants. Once you have it out clean the sensor and the mounting surface and the hole it fits into. once again be careful if you clean out the hole and the sensor doesnt fit tightly you screwed up.

ok well the hubs were replaced last winter actually like 14 months ago. Go figure ford gave me a 12 month warrenty. What is a tone ring ? Is there a picture somewhere of what that is.

are you sure there is a tone ring (not that I know what that is) and the sensor comes out? It really looks like the hubs on this ranger has like all one unit type deals. I tried to get the sensor out but it seems like it stuck and I didnt want to break it. I will post a picture of what I mean. Sorry for the quality of the image but it shows the sensor and hub I am taking about

according to the online service information there is a bolt holding the sensor into its bore. the tone ring is a toothed wheel that is usually attached to the hub. it is easily located by finding the sensor it points directly at it.

do you know if this sensor can be replaced and do you know the part number. i thought I was told it can't be replaced but if it comes out then why not

I have taken them out and replaced them before, but i can't remember the part number. It has been a while since i've done one of these, but it sticks in my head that if it has a bolt it is removable. It takes some effort to get the sensor out of its bore because of rust but it should come out.

Thanks for the help. I did find the problem. And I did find the part. It was $125 and here is the part number if anyone else with a 4x4 needs to replace the front abs sensor. MOTORCRAFT Part # BRAB68 {#F81Z2C204BB} which is cheaper than replacing the entire hubs :)
