Hello im jayson so ive gone another route with 302 swapping my 99 3.0 ranger
I found a m50dr2 trans out of a 03 f150 the only questions I have are...
What starter will I need ?
What flywheel will i need?
What clutch will I need ?
What separator will I need for the trans?
And last What engine mounting plates or engine mounts will I need?
Thank you all in advance!!!

For a 302 engine swapped with an M5R2 5-speed manual transmission, you should use a late-1980s to mid-1990s Ford F-150 starter (5.0L, manual transmission). This guarantees the correct indexing hole size, proper gear throw/engagement depth, and alignment with the standard truck flywheel. [1, 2, 3]

Why This Starter Works
  • Matching Components: The M5R2 has an integrated bellhousing designed for Ford trucks. Using a truck starter ensures the pinion gear perfectly meshes with the 164-tooth manual flywheel used in this setup.
  • PMGR Upgrade: When sourcing your part, look for a Permanent Magnet Gear Reduction (PMGR) mini starter. They were standard on many mid-90s 5.0L trucks, are lighter, offer more torque, and provide excellent clearance for aftermarket exhaust
  • Donor Vehicle Example: A starter from a 1994 Ford F-150 (5.0L, manual) is a direct, reliable fit. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
What year is the 302 block (this affects the flywheel balance: 28oz vs. 50oz)?
