I've learned in my swap that ford changes sh*t about every 2 years or so. F150 4.2, explorer 5.0 are a direct fit.. 5.4 and 4.6's are a different bell housing. Ford changed the trans wiring in 98. 98-99 should be the same wiring internally from what I have read.
