98 std headlights to 01 and up headlight conversion

Bought my son a 98 ext cab 4x4 ranger. basic black grill with std everything. truck was wrecked in front so we got a front clip off an 01 edge to put on it. The 98 front running lights/ turn signal lights (under the headlight) has two bulbs per side (with 3157 bulbs). The 01 headlights have one bulb per side. When I try to take one of the bulbs out it make the blinkers flash fast like a blown bulb. I have tried crossing the wires to trick it to thinking there was a bulb with no luck.

Any one done this conversion before? Any easy fix? I hope I dont have to change the wiring harness in fear more plugs will be different. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe painting the bulb with black paint and leave it hidden?

get an EP27 flasher relay it'll fix your problem
