98 Ranger XLT w/ the 2.5L motor. Coolant is leaking quickly around the crank pulley. Put in a new water pump a couple of months ago, and it doesn't seem moist around the seal. Also, seeing a small amount of moisture around the oil pan.

I am hoping it's not the head gasket, but I wanted to get some opinions on the chances of that. I do not have oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil.

Thanks, and any help would be appreciated.

heard some stories of coolant leaks routing themselves behind the front timming cover, the places to look for are, thermostat housing, bottom of the water pump, head gasket.dont know if theres any freeze plugs on the front of the lima motor, but those are the places to look.

Steve,

Thanks for your response. When you say behind the front timing cover, do you mean inside of the cover as the front pops off? Ill check the thermostat housing tonight when I get off of work. Bottom of the water pump is fine. How should I go about checking the head gasket?

Thanks,

Tyler

Just wanted to see if you guys could tell me about the freeze plug. I am not familiar w/ what that is so if you could help that would be great.

take off your timming belt cover, and you can see if you have a leak in the front off your engine, the chances of a coolant leak in the front of the head gasket would be remote unless you had some foreign matter inbetween the gasket and the block or the head,i dont think theres any freeze plugs on the head in the front, but with the timming cover off you should be able to see whats leaking.
