Hi guys, hopin someone can help me,or steer me in the right direction.I have a 98 ranger,2.5 5 spd.Fire it up,and the engine shakes violently. No power, wont take gas, have to feather the pedal.Timing is dead-on,diamond to diamond, and triangle to triangle, etc.Compression on all 4 are within spec.3 codes came up,iat sensor range was too high,cyl.1 and cyl.3 misfire detected.Replaced the iat,4 new injectors, and a new computer later,it's still the same, except for the iat sensor.Checked electrical connection at the #1 injector harness, and the test light would barely glow, while pulsating.Pull the harness of the #1 injector while running and the engine doesn't change.Pull it off #4 and the engine stalls out.I'm guessing that there is a short in the #1-3 injustor wiring. Were these known for this kind of problem, and where is the best place to start tracing the wiring? I have a Haynes manual, but it doesn't have the schematic I need.Damn book is so worthless,if I threw it in the fireplace, the fire would prolly go out! Thanks for any and all help/suggestions.

The cylinders that you have misfires on, run the engine for a few seconds, then pull plugs. If there is fuel on the plugs, the injector system isn't your issue.

Did you ever check to see if you are getting spark?

Yes,I pulled the plugs on #1 and #3.Dry as a bone. All 8 coils have a nice white/blue spark.I took 2 jumper wires from the battery and ignited the #1 injector, flicking one of the terminals, and you could def hear/feel a difference.

Well my guess would be you are not getting spark for one reason or the other. Might be as easy as smacking down the plugs on the ignition coil to swaping out plugs and wires. How old are your plugs and wires?

I'm getting good spark on all 8 plugs, and coils.Wires, plugs, injectors, and computer are new.It seems like I'm not getting power to the #1 and #3 injector.

I'm not sure if you've tried this, but one way you can see if the injector is actually opening and closing is to get a long screwdriver and touch the injector with one end, and put the other to your ear. You will be able to hear it clicking while it's pulsing on and off. If it's not (and these are indeed new injectors), then you need to investigate wiring, etc.

Yes,new injectors.I tried that and they are not clicking.I did however use 2 jumper wires and flicked the terminals on the injector, and they worked.Do the injector wires run right to the computer? Also,do they all run off the same circuit?
