Transmission
Automatic
The front input shaft bearing failed in my transmission.

I was able to buy a reman'd transmission through a local shop, only problem i have had is that the trans shift nub is clocked off 90 degrees to the left, placing the shifter into the passangers legroom. I tried switching out the lever assembly inside the transmission, but the one from my old transmission is about an inch too long and does not sit properly in the pocket, stopping me from replacing the seal. Does anyone have any ideas, or know where i can buy a 99 ranger shift lever?

I am working under the assumption that this transmission is out of a 99, being that is what it was listed under, Ill post some pictures here soon to clarify what i am trying to explain. Thank you.

That is an odd one for me.
Can you swap out the top plate?

Mazda M50D-R1 is the trans for Rangers after 1988

And before you do anything, will the new trans bolt to your engine block?
they are not interchangeable:
if you have a 2.5l engine then you need a 2.5l trans
If you have a 3.0l you need a 3.0l trans
if you have a 4.0l you need a 4.0l trans

I've heard of this before, but I was under the impression it was more like the 94-95 time period that it changed. Someone (I think it was on here) once said the change made for a shorter throw on the shifter.

If it were mine and I couldn't find the correct shifter in a junkyard close by, I'd just cut the bottom of the existing shifter and make something whatever shape I wanted. (I've always liked the shifters that go up then have a curve to the rear.)

Another $300.00 but I would stick a Hurst shifter on there. Or try to find one in the junk yard.

Never realized that about the M5OD-R1 and R1HD

I pulled the top plate off my old trans and swapped over my old one after RTVing the plugs back in. While i was in the area, i also swapped over one of the, with lack of a better term, Gates so i can have my neutral return back.
