I have my old 98 f150 4.6l that lost a cylinder last fall. Its been parked all winter. Put in a fresh battery and it started right up, still on 7 cylinders. I hooked up my obd2 reader and with key on it could find the type of truck and engine etc. When doing a koeo it didn't complete. IIRC because of no link. When I did a koer same, no connection. I would input the truck info and as soon as I turn the key to start the reader would go black and after the engine got running I couldn't get or input any info.
I'm don't have any experience using these code readers. Am I doing something wrong? Did I follow the instructions wrong?

Hmmm... Had trouble with my 97 F150 a while back. Bought a new reader but haven't really tried it yet to see if new reader would connect.

If the plug fits its obd2... :icon_rofl:

Obd2 started in 95 for ford except HD trucks. 96 for everything in america. The obd2 port has a fuse and if its blown obviously you wont get any data so that's where I'd start.

I was not aware the port has a fuse. Nice to know.

I will check but I'm getting some info with just key on but not running. As soon as I start the engine running the reader doesn't read. Maybe the port shuts power down and the reader loses its place?

Try connecting it while the engine is already running? I think my one scanner will exit when going from run to start.
