ive got a 98 exploder that i want to take the motor and tranny out of and put it in my 90 ranger the explorer has a aod trans in it that is bad wich is why i got a good deal on it, i already have the advanced adapter to use my stock transfer case, but my real question is that i wanted to know if any body makes an after market plug and play wiring harness for this engine and tranny combo because it would save me alot of time and headache if there was such a thing.

A '98 Explorer would have came with a 4R70W transmission.

Just convert that Explorer motor back to the common Mustang wiring and computer. There have been at least three here this year trying that Explorer wiring route and none have ever gotten back with any results. Get a wiring diagram of both vehicles and take a look. That 4R70W Explorer transmission is computer controlled, get a AOD instead.

now that sounds like a good idea if i did go to the muscrat wiring and computer then i could ditch the distributorless ign. system its got and drop in a distributor in place of the cam sensor? where would i find the comp. and harness ready to go? isnt the aod also comp. controlled?

Painless wiring sells the complete new wiring harness for the Mustang. Quite a few computers on E-bay from reliable dealers or rebuilders. It's the '93' Mustang that is used as the basis. FRRP used to sell the harness, was carried by Jegs and Summit.

thanks for that info, thats most likely the route i will go because if i try and use the explorer wiring harness being as my truck is a 1990 and the explorer 98 and has the pass lock and all that other crap on it i would probly have to at least use the steering colum if not the colum and the whole dash, not to mention my advanced adapter is for an aod and i dont think the computer and wiring out of the explorer will jive with that. i guess i should get a car domain page goin so yall can see the truck and its progress as time goes on, i will be starting with the james duff 2" body lift and bushings.

It's not so much the door locks but all the more engine stuff that now goes thru the Explorer computer. 104 pins on the Explorer computer feeding everything. There are a couple write-ups on using the Mustang harness.

yes i did see you vid and your explorer looks good but i didnt see a v-8 in there

a little off subject but does anyone have a carier for a 98 jeep dana 30 front end that came with 3.73s or higher i just swaped a 98 explorer rear end in with 4.10 and posi but my gears up front are 3.54s and with the jeep axle you cant buy 4.10s for it unless you have the 3.73 carier i guess the ring gear gets a little thin otherwise.
