Your 98 Mazda is the same as a 98 Ranger.
Not the same as a 97 Ranger.

If you READ in the Hubs section, you can also convert yours to manual for FREE.

EDIT:

It appears that the article I referred to is gone. Here is a relevant excerpt that explains the manual free conversion option.

IN which case I recommend the Manual conversion. Its really simple as you already got the cap off, just clip off the pin wheel inside the thing and punch out the screen, and smooth the edges to your liking so you have a nice hole in the center of your cap. Put it back on and just insert your finger push all the way down to lock them in and about half way in to unlock the hubs.

The problem I have run into is where ever I look they say that hubs off 98-00 rangers fit 01-08 Mazdas

Rangers and Mazda B-Series trucks are the same as each other from 1994-2008 (obviously excepting for specific items such as fenders and some trim & lighting pieces). Whatever drivetrain parts are listed for one fit the other as well.

Moving to 4WD Systems (hubs).
