I searched and couldn't find anything, even checked tech and didn't find what I was looking for. The driver seat on my 98 ranger, is either broken or the guts are broken, it leans to the left or twists to the left.. One of the little metal bars seems to have poked out of the back of the seat, so my question is, can I just take off the seat back so I can fix it? or do I have to take out the whole 60 part of it? Can I rust remove the pivot bolts to take off the seat back or is it more indepth? none of my manuals (even the shop manual) are very helpful in this matter.

On my ’03 I had to remove the backs before replacing anything else so it was the first thing done… I would have to believe that the ’98 isn’t too much different.
If you driver’s side back doesn’t have any lower back support or additional levers in it, you might get away with a passenger side back, if you can find one.

In my ’03 they appear to swap around and even the passenger side seat will swap to the driver’s side, seat pans are the same, holes on both sides to allow the levers to come out on the opposite side.

Do some checking and then look in the JY, you might find a new set of seats.

Oh ya, the Std Cab sliders/tracks are different than the Ext Cab UNits, just something to think about but if your sliders unbolt then you can swap the sliders and go for it.

I hope this helps some.

How do I remove the backs? is it just the two pivot bolts? or is there more to it then that? I would assume there is more because there is never anything that easy when working on a car.
