98 4x4 CV Axle replacement Help

ok, sooo, some of you know I just replaced both hub bearings....and I was sooo close to just replacing the cv axles since everything was apart but I didn't... I now have crazy clunking when I turn and I see grease pouring out from the outer boot cv joints on both sides.

I know I gotta rip the hub out again, but once I'm down to the axle, how does the rest come apart????

And while I'm here, my tires are screeching around every turn, like I have a locker in there or something....I punched it in the dirt the other day and see both tires are turning leaving equal tread marks, is the rear still engaged in 4x4? and whats gotta be done?

for a 1998, once you have the hub ripped down and to the axle, you need to remove the upper Control arm/Steering Balljoint. then the Knucle swings out and you can remove the axle shafts after compressing them a little. if they do not come out of the front Digg, a little prybar action wil pop them free.

so it just....slides out of the axle?

And its def not possible to just get the joints replaced?

The CV should be a part of the front axle. You can get the joint replaced, but it would probably (but don't quote me on this as i usually work with u joints) close to the same price to get the entire unit. CV and CV joint replacement was never cheap.
