98 4.0

i have a 92 stx ext cab, and i want to swap motors with one i had found, it's a 98 4.0 and i was wondering if it right into my 92. What would i need? I know it came out of a ranger that had a dash fire so i don't know if the wire harness is good. and also it is from a 2wd and mine is a 4x4. will the transfer case mate up to it??? HELP!

Well first of all, the transfer case isn't bolting up to your engine, it bolts to the transmission, in which this case you are not changing trannys I would assume, so no problem there.

Secondly, is your current engine a 4.0L?

Third, if it is, all you have to do is drop the engine down in, and switch out intake manifolds, There might be something else but I cannot pin point it at this time. You wont need its harness anyways.

yes my truck is a 4.0 i just want to swap in one set up out of a 98 Ranger 2wd 4 speed automatic into my 92 4wd auto. One of the biggest deals i was concerned about was if it was the same engine. and if i needed the wiring harness because i don't know if it is good considering it had a dash fire.....
