98 3.0 to 06 sohc conversion

Still doing some research. My daughter was just born and I'm getting married soon so I just been really busy. I'm trying to get a buddy to help me with it while I work all day

I'm just hoping everything goes well with it

so how goes it i have hit a snag the stupid speedo still isnt working haha i know the pcm is getting the right stuff because i can hook up a scanner to the obd 2 plug in and i get the speed but some thing from the pcm to the speedo is messed up and i think i might have to get a sohc dash to make it work along with my temp and oil pressure gauges

I did the same conversion in my 98 3.0L Mud drag truck and didn't have any of the issues your talking about? I used an 01 Explorer motor with a 94 OHV M5OD 5 speed trans and it was plug and play on mine. I initially fired it on a 95 4.0L OHV ECU then I was able to find a pre PATS 97 4.0L SOHC ECU at the scrap yard out of an Explorer and everything ran perfect. All my gauges worked correctly and my charging system was also functioning properly. The only thing I did not hook up correctly was the nuetral saftey switch. Mine wasn't a street truck and I prefer to be able to crank the motor while in gear with the key off so I by passed the circut and installed a push button start. It took me 3 nights to complete the swap and have the truck back at the track racing the following saturday. I reused the factory explorer cat's and o2 sensors and for my application just needed some turn downs off the short pipes. I never once had an issue with my set up after the conversion and would still be running it if I hadn't bent the frame. The only issue we had was the tq from the motor with the low gearing and 38" tall tires actually destroyed the frame and front end of the truck. To the point that it tore the drivers side motor mount through the frame rail. I am starting on a second swap with that same motor into my 97 Daily driver/trail truck tomorrow but this time I am running a 5R55E auto trans to try and go a little easier on the rest of the truck. This one will be sitting up on 38" tall tires also with full width 3/4 ton axles and 5.13 gears so I dont want a repeat of the race truck
