98 3.0 to 06 sohc conversion

nope i havent even done it yet haha the truck is finally coming back down to my house from my friends house and we are going to hopefully have it wired in by the weekend o and the speedo doesnt work. i think a hanes manual from the 3.0 year and the 4.0 year should have the 42 pin connector with all the pins numbered then you can cross reference it. idk though

well you will need the 4.0 alternator for your conversion i wanna say that the 3.0 is a 75 amp alt. while the 4.0 is a 130 amp alt

also my speedo doesnt work so you will have to figure out which wires control that on the 4.0 and crossreference the 3.0

I think I saw somewhere with that diagram. Did you have a pats issue?

no my truck didnt have it i think you can bring the vin to a ford dealer and it should be able to tell you if you need it. also your exhaust will need to be custome from the header back because the 3.0 doesnt hook up right

I'll give it a shot. I got a guy buying my 2002 4.0 and I'm going to get a new one 2003 or newer to help eliminate the timing chain issue so my swap has to wait till this one sells any day now and I pull the new one

ok so i figured the speedo issue it has to do with the general electronic module also called a GEM in your truck its not set up to run from the back of the transfercase at the oss its set uf to run from your rear axle so you will need to swap one from a sohc engine ranger that matches yours or an explorer with a sohc in it
