I only have cold air when its set to max and its idling/low rpm. Anything that puts a load on my engine while in overdrive will cause it to blow heat. Lately I've figured out that if i turn overdrive off and get up to speed and let my A/C cool down while at a high rpm (around 3200) and then turn overdrive on it will stay cool as long as the rpms dont start fluctuating (traffic). So is this symptom part of the blend door problem? Or a vacuum line problem? Or what? Its starting to get hot down here in Houston and i need some A/C.

Odd problem. I would vise-grip the heater hoses and shut the hot water off from the inside of the truck and see how it works- if that fixes it I'd say the blend door is screwed up.

If it was a vacuum problem the vents would default over to defrost- do they still blow air out the vents (hot or otherwise)?

Might be freezing up, and could also have too much freon in it. Put a set of guages on it and see what you get.
