97 v8 swap

If i can find a 302 in something other than an explorer but can get ahold of a wiring harness to the explorer would it fit on the engine? also how hard would it be to just use whatever harness was on the 302 i found elsewhere? do the manual trany's require the fire wall to be modified, or is that just the autos?

car shows?

you can hazard the guess.

1800-2300 for a complete 330 hp under 60 k power-train, waterpump to transfercase...that is lighter then any oem sbf.

and you pull a 200 dollar 302 and get what?

what do you get?

old shit. depending on where you live the wiring will be trashed and a total pia to rework if your in the salt belt.

330 hp total powertrain from a 302 for 1800 bux that is on par is a tough task to accomplish.

the swap work is very similar. rebuilding an engine on a 1800 dollar budget sux.

the prices i listed are open prices. walk in.

the reality is you can do complete non al 5.3's for under a grand.

it is a bit more work, but you get more at the same time.

While I respect that input bobby I'm gunna have to disagree.

Not only do u have to factor in motor which is mammoth by the way just as wide of not wider than a modular Ford (I have a 5.3 I'm looking at as we type ) u have to consider Trans.

4l60e is a huge Trans literally huge and to put it in ranger would take lots of Fab and a body lift. U would have a hard time fitting exhaust between rails and only be able to run manifolds. Granted lsx power is unreal good for bolt ons they aren't cheap

For the price to do all that u could build a soilid 351 with aluminum heads that makes far more power than the 5.3 know u have a good choice for Trans and t case and have it be just reliable as the 5.3

Besides its a Chevy who wants that in a ranger ;) again my. 02

to answer the car shows question, not really more just to show off to friends but still be able to drive the truck. I wouild like to use a 302 as i"m not one for putting a chevy or anything else in a ford.

I am fairly certain I can find a carb'd 302 out of a mustang or even an early 5.0 ho from a mustang but am thinking it might be better at this point to stay carb'd as what i mainly want from the engine is the idle qualty. I'm looking at either a thumpr or mutha thumpr cam and neither one was made for an fi setup

:icon_surprised:

really? big as a mod motor ??:shok:

wow.:icon_confused:

here is a nice ford-i-fied ls......

and a mod in the same chassis...

pretty sure an ls is much more packagable and easier to get 400 cubes out of....

5.3 mammoth? in what? potential?.....400 cubes?

not sure what you are talking about...4l60 is nice and compact and easily fitted, no different then an aod. certain factory manifold offerings are easily cut/fittable and support 500 hp. i am talking 350-400 hp range here. its real cheap.

riiight.

look, i am not baggin fords. but your statements are not simply disagreeable. i dont know how you came to those conclusions with a side by side powertrain comparisons:shok:

carb is fine. the carshow comment was in response to 4x4truckstops initial post which he retracted while i was responding.

if you want a ford, the 302 is cake compared to anything for an install....the ls is second up though. for econo swaps with great power the ls is hard to beat.

my goal is to broaden the options and potentials.

easy button for 302 is lowest mile explorer you can find with a nice 4 bbl intake and 600cfm or so carb and nice intake with some decent tri y type headers...

89 Ranger 302, gt40 heads ported, ecam, wiend stealth intake, tri y's, t5, and 8.8.......... still slow

14.0 @ 98.77 with a 2.3 60' first time at strip ever
(setup alterations this winter, new (hopefully better) times to come for next year)

just for comparison, seen a stock untuned lq4 run 13.30/99 mph on 10 in tires and slappers first run out of the box with one of them big ol 4l60 transmissions.

i think this kid is around here somewhere.

for the experienced eye, this makes evident keeping ac is cake.

needs a raised hood depending on what one does...

neat truck.

Ya that 14.0 was also made on a 100 dollar explorer motor and rotted out old exhaust system unturned and driven by me give me the extra 2k I saved in the swap I'd run 12s man make a fair comparison. Cause the one u just made wasn't even close. I posted a pic and build of my buddy's lq4 swapped Sonoma with a Turbo on stock suspension running 10s so ya I know these motors can make power but ur pushing ls so hard this is atleast the 2nd thread I've seen when really there's no reason to do so unless for the sole purpuse of being completely different

Funny a high price swap trapped same MPH as me doesn't make a good argument for ur ls preach

the swap i am referring to cost less then 1000.

actually less then 700 iirc.

it had flex pipe exaust and still sounded great.

i have never seen a stock 302 run under a 14 in a ranger:dunno:

the ls is my first suggestion to an rbv v8 swap.

generally i can do the powertrains much cheaper....i set the public prices. on the occassion those yards have something as old as a 302, it would be at least 1200 complete for a complete swap ready take out. so 2000 looks good to me.

the ls is my first suggestion.....:thefinger:

and hey!....i can make cheap power with a ford too. the 4.6 is made to have air shoved down its throat compared to a 302....

only thing i like to put turbos on is my diesel though....cant lean those fawkers out and bust shit.

oh yeah.....my ext cab 4x4 run a best of 14.2 with a sbf.....

so i am more then aware your situation was ....is less then ideal.

now imagine if you had a cv or ft truck 302 to start with.

O I realize the fact that my time is even slow for what I have I'm just saying for this Guy sbf is way to go. No need to bring it personal :-( just I personally believe lsx is far superior to an outdated 302 or even a modular Ford. BUT very brand loyal so would never consider such an unimaginal Chevy hearted power plant (boooo )

I'm all for going fast tho so whatever it takes and ur personal taste is I'm down with that

And I assume ur not calling me out by saying my situation is less than ideal
