Good morning.I have a 1997 Ranger.2WD 4.0L.This truck has 210,000 KM.

My speedometer/odo quit awhile back so i started reading threads on the problem.Sometimes it works but mostly not.Removed my VSS and tested resistance.Got 206 ohms which is ok.Removed the VSS and hooked it to my drill.Spun it and i got voltage.faster i ran drill the more voltage i got.Just over 8 volts was the max.Is that to high of voltage?

Took apart my dash and removed the cluster.Tested the white/yellow wire at cluster and i have power.Dont remember what the voltage was.tester the grey/black VSS signal wire at cluster and i have voltage goes up and down with the more throttle i give it.Cleaned all contacts and put back together. No contacts looked dirty or corroded.

No check engine light no abs light.Everything works but the speedo/odo.I'm leaning toward a faulty cluster. Can a VSS work intermittently?

Any input into this would be appreciated.

thank you.
