My 97' Rangers stock shift knob keeps slipping off and i was planning on getting a new one. The problem that im having is that the stock shift knob just press fits over some splines and most aftermarket knobs are threaded. could i just run a dye over the splines and thread them? if so what thread size should i order? the one i want comes in 8x1.25, 10x1.25, 10x1.5, 12x1.25, and 12x1.5

First, determine the outside diameter of the shift lever, in millimeters. If it's not just smaller than or equal to 8, 10, or 12mm, then you can't "just run a die over the splines and thread them", because you'll need machine work.

mix up some 2-part of your choice and glue that bad boy on there.

assuming, of course, it won't give your mother a heart attack or make her look at you with disgust if she ever sees it.

or for a temporary bond try a glue stick.

I used superglue on mine. Hasn't slipped off in 15 years.

Some of you younger guys don't have a clue as to how wonderful all the new glues are. Do you realize many new vehicle doors are actually glued in place? The hinges don't have a weld spot on them.
Do you know that the dentist now glues your fillings?
There is glue for just about anything that one could think of.
In the past we used bailing wire and rope to glue things together.
I remember using FLOUER and water to make glue to glue my handmade kites together.
Nowadays guys are saying "glue that sucker on there" and sure enough there are two or three different glues that will do the job.
Oh, I wish I could live another hundred years just to see what humanity comes up with.

At the very least, I hope we come up with a method to remove some of those wonderful amazing glues, for those situations where an unwise person got carried away...

It's funny. I've never even heard of a thread on shifter knob till now. Everything I've seen has been factory glued (or pressed) or used set screws...
