My check engine light has been on for a while, i pulled the code right aways and it was a P0156 (if i remember right) which is 02 sensor bank 2 sensor 1 slow response. So replaced the sensor on the passenger side before the cat. Cleared the code, 15 miles later it comes back on, same code. Did i not replace the right sensor? They probably need changed as i have 220,000 kms on it now. The fuel mileage is also quite pitiful as it gets maybe 15 in the city, 17 on the highway. Is this around what everyone else is getting? If so i may as well just have a half ton! Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

My mistake it was a p0151 which is bank 2 sensor 1!

I would clean the sensors before replacing them.

If I'm not mistaken, Bank 2 should be the driver's side, and sensor 1 should be in the Y-pipe on that side. So it sounds like you replaced the right sensor. In this case, I would read below, since 2 sensors say the same thing. But I honestly don't know what could be the problem. Just fix it the right way, by TESTING not REPLACING. That is what I have been thought, and it works well, and is cheaper!

My truck kept throwing O2 sensor codes too (completely different codes than yours though).
I wanted to replace the sensors, but my auto shop teacher (he owned a shop for I think 25 years) kept telling me that O2 sensors rarely go bad. Sure enough, the sensors were good, but the wires going to them had been crossed.
Think of it this way, if you smell a really bad smell, you don't replace your nose. You find the smell and fix it. Same goes with O2 sensors. The sensor is doing just that, sensing the problem, and the sensors is rarely actually the problem. So, maybe you do need a new nose, but i HIGHLY doubt it.

I realize you can't solve somethings by throwing parts at it, i am a heavy duty mechanic myself BUT the code says "Slow Response" Would this not mean it is getting its input of 5v and the correct output of whatever the sensor is reading, just not responding quickly enough? BTW oxygens sensors do not last forever. Usually not more 200,000km. Think of all the head cycles it goes through alone! And cleaning does nothing really either
