97 ranger 2.3l intermittent misfire

Hey everyone I'm new here and I am having a frustrating problem...I have been chasing a misfire all day I thought it was the coil packs as when checked with a timing lighti could see some non consistent firing..replaced the coil packs...still have the problem...I have the 8 plug head and both coil packs are miss firing at the same time....this leads me to believe it's the crank sensor or cam sensor and the fact that the misfire goes away at times tells me it's not a misalignment of the timing belt...I have the motor where the icm is built into the pcm and is non serviceable...is my reasoning sound on all of this?!?^^^ can anyone think of anything I'm overlooking anyone had this problem before? I'm open to suggestions ideas etc thanks guys!

how are the plugs? specifically the passenger side. I've found gap does affect performance.

When I bought my Ranger the PO had just bought new plugs and thrown them in, he didn't even bother to gap them and strange misfires were the result.

Ok so I found my cam sensor covered in grease and what not cleaned that...no change then I found that the plug that goes into the maf were shorting out on each other...taped them up=huge improvement I'm gonna grab a new harness/plug at pick n pull and that should be the resolution
