So my girlfriends 1997 Explorer has had an ongoing issue with the alarm going ape all the time. One factor to the issue is her driver door handle is busted, and has to be unlocked from the inside. The handle will open the door, but only if unlocked, and it has no spring or anything to it. Just limp. Anyway since the alarm has its own agenda, and her key fob doesn't work for crap, we normally just manually lock, and unlock the car. It got accidentally armed last night, and this morning when I went out to troubleshoot it, I got it to disarm by doing the left - then - right turn of the key in the lock cylinder. Since all of this I have been looking to disable it completely.
So here is the question: I know I need to ground the dark green/purple wire to the chassis to disable it. I read that I should do it on the wire behind the kick panel, driver side. I noticed that this wire is also present in the back cargo area, behind the panel where the jack is located. SO would I want to ground it in the back, or front? Another side note is in the back (where the jack is) the green/purple and black wires are not plugged into wherever they're supposed to be.. They aren't broken just unplugged...
Am I looking at the wrong wires? Why is the alarm ever going if that isn't connected/what is that?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

(also do I need to disconnect the battery to ground the wire? disconnecting and then re connecting the battery ALWAYS sets the alarm off to no avail..)
