97 exp. v8 into a 2000 ranger?

so what are the differences in the earlier explorer w v8 verses the 99-01 ones? is it going to be worth hunting up another newer explorer? It is going into a standard cab 2wd 2000 ranger. hope to get a overdrive trany in also, not the 4wd one. KB
PS will use aftermarket tbi not any computer stuff from either unit so dont care about wireing.

Only real differences given an aftermarket fuel injection and ignition between the early and late Expo 5.0's are the heads GT40 vs GT40P and the through the heads/intake EGR port in the earlier GT40 heads and the from the right exhaust manifold EGR with the GT40P heads.
