I installed a 97 4.0 into a 2000 ranger, had a no start.
The cam position sensor was different, I swapped the caps, but they are different. Do I need to swap the entire assembly.
The 97 had a return fuel line, I plugged the port on it that I'm pointing to on the 2000, I'm getting no fuel pressure to the rail? Do I need to swap the rails and regulators?.
The 2000 has white injectors, the 97 has red ones. Wire plugs are the same, but are the injectors the same. I'm swapping the fuel rail tomorrow, my regulator mount is different due to the larger dia. Fuel regulator on the 97.

Yes, you need to swap the Cam synchro and sensor
Ford changed cam sensor from 3 wire Hall Effect to 2 wire Variable Reluctance(VR) sensors in 1998/99
Hall effect was 12v on/off signal, VR is variable AC volt signal
So you need to match signal to what Computer needs to see

Yes, fuel system changed in 1998 to "returnless", no fuel pressure regulator on the engine end, and a single fuel line at the engine end, also 1998 and up use 60psi fuel pressure, 1997 and earlier used 35psi
So you need to match fuel system to computer so it can calculate correct fuel ratio, and that includes injector rating, i.e. pounds of fuel per hour

So best to swap over fuel rail and injectors to match computers year

So swap over the 2000 cam synchro(or new one) to the 1997 engine, and time it
Swap over the 2000 fuel rail and injectors over to the 1997 engine

1998 was the first year of 3rd(or 4th, lol) generation Rangers so there were a few changes from 1997 Rangers
