I've been trying to solve my cam sensor issue for the last month with no luck at all. Replaced the sensor, ecu, and rewired the sensor and none of it worked. The only other thing I can think of is the fact I have an engine from a mustang. I found a 2.5 at the local pull a part in Louisville with around 150k on it compared to the 230k+ on all the 2.3s. Since it seems like a fairly simple swap I figured I'd go for it. I plan on pulling the engine, harness, and ecu and swapping everything over. Is there anything else from the 98 that I need and other than the fuel rail, what else do I need to use from the 2.3? This is my first engine swap attempt and any help will be greatly appreciated.

It should be just a bolt in deal with no surprises.I think the 97 is a non return line fuel rail also,so you wouldn't have to change it

Will the pins on the 2.5 engine harness at the big square plug on the intake manifold match up to the stock 2.3 harness that goes thru the firewall?

If it's what I'm thinking it is, that is the ICM for the 2.3. Whether the 2.5 has the same kind of ignition control, I don't know. Do you have the same two-coil setup that the pre-'97 2.3s (Baby-Eight setup) had? If the 2.5 does, then you shouldn't have a problem hooking it up.

Yes,same plugins.Do you have a non return line system?

this is the plug I'm talking about and the fuel rail has two lines so I'm assuming its a return system. Can the engine be pulled with the trans still attached?

Yes it can,I wouldn't myself if I was just changing engines.I would use your return line fuel system.
