long time lurker, first post.
i have "Most" of the stuff for a turbo build with the exception of turbo. have 88 TC auto obd 1 ecu but for as long as ive been lurking here never seen the question asked as to what you would need to use the stock computer (97 obd2 ecu). im not planning anything earth shattering anyway and i under stand factory obd2 can handle low boost. so what would it take to run it? what sensors if any need added?what about the lost spark?have two cores one 87t one 96 na , 97 still running stock 2.3na 400k (+/-) miles.

Using the stock turbo computer is possible but would pretty much take the whole wiring harness for the engine to do it and converting to distributor and adding the vane airflow meter and switching a bunch of sensors...

You'd be best off with an aftermarket tuner or computer or something using the OBD II stuff... the '96 engine will have better flow in the head and such, the forged pistons should fit in the newer block assuming the bores are good...

I have enough stuff on hand to add a turbo and mild boost to my '97, it's on the list but pretty low, in like 3 years I haven't found the time to put in the rear slider window in...

yea im not looking to run the obd 1 ecu .ide like to run a stand alone obd2 style ecu but coin is an issue right now and i dont know crap about tuning ,so the cheaper options are out. if i can assemble the engine get it all plumed up and run it low boost off factory ecu ,well thats the question aint it? was looking for a 289 but i have the turbo parts and it dont cost anything to ask.

Isn't it pretty common to run boost with just a variable fuel pressure regulator? Seems like the easy button if you're looking for something passable.

passable is the name of the game, for the time being. so a higher flow pump? or injectors? both? i have the brown tops but their the old style (low imp?) i read some where at some point the yellow tops(v8 f150/mustang) can be used as a swap for turbo application. true or not i dont know.
