Hey guys, I'm new to these boards. I had an '86 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe that was hit by another driver and totaled. Now I'm looking to swap the enging into a '96 Ranger. But I live in NY, where to be inspected the '96 and newer vehicles have to be plugged into the state inspection system with the OBD 2 system. How can I make this work? There is no way to make the OBD 2 system work with my old '86 engine is there? If that's the case, I guess I just have to wait around for a '95 or earlier truck. Any pointers would be great.

You would have to run your OBD2 computer, so your option is to run the TC's internals with your block and head. I tried swapping a dual plug head onto a turbo block to run the factory computer, but I needed to tap the block to use the crank sensor, I stopped at this point. You could do this, and retain the turbo block, but you would need your 96 head, intake and accessories so you can run your OBD2. SCTuner makes a program to calibrate your stock computer to run the turbo, just do a search on it and you will get the web link there, I would give it to you, but don't have it off hand
