I had a 400 small block in my 96 ranger. I left all the wiring in the truck and just connected to the few ignition wires I needed. Now I'm swapping to a 6.0 and want to clean up the engine bay a little. I have a stand alone harness for the 6.0 and custom gauges in the dash. Are there any wires I need to leave other than the ones I need to connect to? Can I remove the power distribution box? Probably seem like dumb questions, but I'm electrically challenged. I just want everything to still work, interior lights, turn signals, etc. I know to leave the wires going to the lights, just wasn't sure if there are power wires going into the plug on the firewall to feed the wiring to the lights. Things like that. Any help would be appreciated.

The best thing to do is get a shop manual. I got one for my 98 on CD for $10 on ebay. What I did was set the wire harnesses on the floor and used the wiring diagrams to see what you still need. You'll be surprised had how intertwined the wiring circuits are. I still have wires that I don't know if I need, but I left them. You will have some unused circuits that can now be used for other things.

Forgot to say to really clean up the engine bay, I took out the passenger airbag and moved the under hood fuse block and all of it's wires under the dash where the airbag was. Of course you will have to lengthen some wires. 94s had passenger airbag as an option, I found the trim piece at a junk yard.
