Power is from fuse in instrument panel.
From fuse it goes to on/off switch.
From o/o switch, it goes to the low pressure switch.
From the low pressure switch it goes to the high pressure switch.
From h/p switch it goes to the relay in the engine compartment fuse box. This relay is controlled by the powertrain control module for wide open throttle control.
From the relay it goes to the compressor coil.
Use a test light and follow the voltage to the compressor.
The l/p switch is a common problem.
The compressor will not run or will quick cycle if low on refrigerant.
Relays fail with some regularity.:)shady

My Ranger was with the same probleme.

All the system ok but the A/C mechanics insistis in leaks that they did not show where were! Searching net I found the procedure of taking off (or making thiner) a washer reducing the space between the pieces and demanding less eficienty of the clutch.

After 1,5 year with an A/C not so good I made this procedures and its like new!

shadetree, would you happen to know the route of power for an '86? I have the same problem but out of the cab the power goes to a relay. So i guess it's different then a '96. and i'm pretty sure on mine the only high pressure switch it has is just to release the pressure to the atmosphere with no wiring on it. thanks for any help.
