My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
Thinking about buying one.

Its a Centurion interior crew cab with everything but a sunroof and leather seats. 234,xxx miles

new cam sensor, plus a nib cam sensor in the glove box.

Came from Oregon so no rust, belongs to a Seminary student that needs cash.

$7500.

Performance mods for the 7.3 abound. I have a 4dr, 4wd 2002 F350 7.3 Stroke. Runs beautifully and pulls like a beast.
$7300 in good shape is a steal.
The 7.3 is an International Harvester supplied engine designed in 1975. They last for about a million miles with regular maintenance. This engine is still being placed in brand new semi trucks.
The cam position sensor will fail unexpectedly and with no notice, so keep the spare with you. Hopefully you have the black upgraded sensor from International, which will help it run smoother and more efficiently. Replaced my CPS with updated one and dropped 700rpm at 60mph, with no loss of power. The best thing to help the injectors last is to get the air out of the fuel supply system, my next step.
PM if you want more info on this engine.

I have a '97 F-250 with the 7.3 and it is a pulling beast. 234,000 miles is great for these trucks, I know of one 7.3 powerstroke that is pushing 1.3 million miles on the ORIGINAL engine. If you do all the maintenance and don't beat the crap out of them they'll last forever. Also $7500 is a great price for that truck! That same truck would be around $10,000 where I live. I say go for it sounds like a great deal

When you change the cps, do you have to do an ecm relearn?

test drove it today. gonna buy it next Saturday.

paid for a used car inspection. it has a coolant leak at the thermostat housing (common issue with an engineered fix?), oil leak from the front seal/oil pan/ timing cover, transmission fluid leak from the pan gasket, weak power steering at idle. 1 power window does not go down, weak batteries, smells like it has a fuel leak (maybe due to a missing bed mounted aux tank that was plumbed directly into the main tank), and no stored codes. Drives straight, no vibration, and no black smoke. Rides like a school bus.

They are based very loosly on a gas engine, the 6.9 didn't start production until '82 and the 7.3 in '86.

When I was designing bucket trucks in '05, I don't remember a single new Navistar truck with at least a 6.0. We just put a fan belt on '05 4500 International grain truck with a DT466... doesn't leave much room for a 444...

And that is all they are good for, little straight trucks. Not enough beef for a full blown semi tractor.

Depending on how they IH takeover went, the 6.9 could have easily been killed off too. Case was pretty proud of the 5.9 they helped Cummins design. That would have changed the pickup truck world quite a bit...

The 7.3 idi and 7.3 psd are two completely different engines. The only thing they share is displacement and fuel type.

Bdabs truck is a '96, it's got a psd.

brought it home today, will post pics later after I re-size them. This truck is fast. Faster than I thought it was on the test drive. stopped at advanced and bought an airfilter and it made night and day difference. appears to be 4.11 gearing.
