I just picked up this truck, 1996 Ford Ranger 3.0L, 5 speed with lock out hubs and I got it for $800. Not bad for my first 4x4.. What's everyone doing for lifts on these trucks anyway? Like around 4 or 5 inch? Also, how do I know what gearing my rear end has? Ill keep this thread updated on the weekly. Here's a pic of the danger! :icon_hornsup:

Stay tuned!

Take a sawzall cut the fenders out put the biggest tires on that will fit. Beat on it till something breaks upgrade it. Then repeat. Your welcome

It all depends on what you want to do with your ranger.
I had a 4" rough country lift and 33's, I rocked that till I said screw the ttb :thefinger: and decided to sas it

That looks really clean for $800...

Look in the tech library on this sight for axle codes. Find the sticker in your door. It will have an axle code on it.

I have always been told that in suspension, you get what you pay for.

First things first took the truck to my buddies house on a trailer as the truck had no brakes. There we pulled the box which was rotted out and it ended up getting scrapped. Started replacing parts with:
All new brake lines front to back
2 wheel cylinders
2 Brake shoe and spring kits on the rear
4 New shocks
Power steering lines
Imco muffler

I posted some pics but they turned out really big so I need to resize them somehow. Whats the best way to post pics?

Get a photobucket account. Looks close to what my truck looked like a few years ago, even has the same color as mine...

Nice looking truck for $800.
Axle codes are here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Axles.html
If your going to lift it just cause you like the look of a lifted truck but won't use it much consider a body lift. They are pretty cheap and won't affect driveability. If your going to run easy trails maybe consider a suspension lift kit. You get what you pay for with these, some less expensive brands are known to punch a hole in the front diff when used hard. The best brands are fairly expensive but well made and thought out.
Plan ahead. The harder you plan to use it, the more you'll want to spend.

Whatever your thinking of doing, theres probably an article in the tech section that will help ( http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/index.shtml ). That and advice from the people on here who've done it all before. Most of all, keep us updated and post pictures. Have fun and good luck!
