A friend of mine has a 96' Chevy K1500 5.7L. It has a hard time starting. I took a fuel pressure reading just with the key on the pressure reads 60 psi then drops down to zero almost instantly with the key still in the on position. When it actually is running the Fuel pressure stays at 50-52 psi. I tried the "Flood Clear Method" and it never fired up. He said he changed the fuel pump three or four months. I am not ruling out the fuel pump yet. This particular 5.7L has Central Sequential Fuel Injection (CSFI). I have never messed with one of these. I was leaning toward a bad injector but after looking at the fuel injection system I don't know.
Does anyone know of any other tests I can do to narrow it down? or what I need to look at?

Try turning the key on and off a few times before starting to see if it primes it enough to start.

Fords have a check valve thats supposed to hold pressure after prime. I assume the chevy does to. Believe its part of the fuel pump.

That will help to start it but what about pin pointing the problem?

Find out where that check valve is. It could be in the pump or elsewhere. New parts dont always mean good parts.

brand new out of the box.....happens daily.

New parts don’t mean good parts anymore... I call them untested parts at work.
