'96 B2300 Speedo Problem

So after fiddle faddling with the Odometer and getting that working, I noticed there was a dead spot in my speedometer signal. Between 28-45 it never displays correctly, either too much or no enough speed, but outside those speeds it's dead on. Now I noticed a previous owner swapped the rear axle with a 7.5" 3.08 when the truck came with a 7.5" 3.45. I know with the Dodge Dakota's the rear speed sensor doesn't do anything but would the different rear axle cause that sort of deadspot with the computer, or would one if not both speed sensors be faulty to cause this problem. Truck is a B2300 5spd.

No, 1996 Ranger uses a VSS(vehicle speed sensor) that's on the transmission tail shaft, gear driven same as the old speedometer cables

Could be a gear issue, pull it out and have a look
