Hello.

I have a 96 ranger 4/cyl 5 speed that runs decent but is otherwise a mess. I found nice looking 99 in need of an engine that has a newer auto trans for $850...might can get for 500.

I was wonder how much trouble it would be to drop the 4 cyl from my 1996 into the body of this 1999.

Any thoughts or opinions would be welcome, thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Are they both 2wd? I have seen Chevy 350s shoved into 1958 Ford pickups and Ford straight sixes in Novas so hell anythings possible.

yep...both 2wd....for sure anything's possible...was just wonder the 4 cyl would bolt right in and up to the auto trans. thanks tho!

Might have some issues. The 96 has a 2.3L, the 99 would have a 2.5L. Externally identical, a few minor electrical differences. I imagine it can be made to work though.

If the 99 has a 6 cyl, no the 4 won't bolt up to the trans. The bellhousings are different.

thanks, that figures. not worth the trouble if not a direct bolt up..thanks!
