I found a nice little 95 XLT that I'm going to look at this weekend with close to 200,000 miles. Anything I should look for or be particularly worried about? That seems like a lot but I know it depends on how well it has been taken care of. The only other "drawback" is that its a very bright purple - can't do a whole lot about that though :dunno:

Anybody have any good (positive) stories/experiences with their trucks that have VERY high mileage?

230,000 Miles

I bought my 97 with 72k on it. I've had to replace the rear end, and have done standard maint. on the 4.0. I'm now at 230k and getting 20mpg. I love this truck.

I know a guy who has 225,000 and did basic maintance and runs like a new one still . He's one reason why I bought mine but not the only one.
thanks

186,000 + miles on mine. Bought it brand new and use nothing but top of the line products. If you take care of anything it will take care of you.

If the seller has good record keeping on the engine and it's a fair price I'd say go for it.

i just bought a 93 ford explorer with 172,000 on it and it runs strong, burns no oil and does hesitate or miss. Drove it home from 45 miles away. Even tho i got electrical issues with it now it was worth it.

my '94 still runs like a champ at nearly 200k. its a 4.0 auto and STILL hasn't had the tranny rebuilt. (my dad told me like 3 yrs before he died 5 years ago that the tranny "was going" and to baby it)
:icon_twisted:

The 4.0 is one hard cockroach to stamp out.

Mine is at 214k now, runs quite well, factory perfect compression on all 6 cylinders still, impressive if you ask me.

My suggestion is to have the seller start it up, and let it idle until its completely warm, see if it does anything funny during the process.

i have 2 ranger both 93's one has 275k on it and the other 230k, the higher miles one the lifters are shot and it rattles like a diesal but it runs great and drives just fine, still a tickin, the other runs perfect except for a iacv issue ive still not messed with, but hell i drive them all over in the mountains and to work, ford rangers are built like a brick shit house, hands down.

195k on mine. I have lifter tick at low rpm's. Mine could really use valvecover gaskets, but it doesn't lose much oil. Still starts right up every time, and goes as strong as it ever did.

Last Weekend I had 1200lbs of gravel in my bed, and the 4.0 laughed at it!

i got 301,000 on my 93 and it still runs great all that you need to do is routine maintenance and they run forever.

i have 250,000 on my 94 4.o with no issues at all except the freeze out plugs are starting to rust and weep slowly.

I have 274k on my 92 and it pulls my donor truck around on a tow bar without any trouble. its still strong and it only a minor oil leak plus what looks to be valve seals just starting to go.

which unless it gets bad I will ignore =>
