Ok I really hoping that someone else hear has had this problem. I’ve got a stock 95 ranger with 186,000 on it and a 4.0 L and auto and 4x4. The check engine light came on one day so I read the codes. There were quite a few codes. There was one about the EGR flow insufficient, two about running lean on both banks, and one about cylinder 4 misfire. So I looked into the problem. I started out looking for electrical problems and checked all of my grounds. I didn’t find anything. So then I went looking for vacuum leaks. I found out that the lower intake gasket was shot. So I replaced that and while I was in there I replaced all of the O-rings around the injectors. After all of that I still had the same codes. So I took it to the ford dealer. They told me it was the MAF sensor, the DPFE sensor, and that should fix my problem. So I replaced that and still have the same problems. So I took it to a different ford dealer because the other dealer didn’t want to work with me. So the new ford dealer said that I needed a new exhaust system because it was too plugged. So it was replaced. Then they said I needed a new computer. So I replaced that. Guess What? The light is still on with the same codes and the dealer wants to charge me again to look at it more. I don’t have the patience or money to take it back to the dealer. If anyone can help me out it would be awesome.

Sorry about the long post but I wanted to give the whole background.

That's a lot of bullshit ther bud!

I would first check your EGR valve as that will most of the time set off the lean codes you are also getting. I can't believe the dealer had you spend all that money and then still not help after the same problem exists.

Did you talk to the service manager there?

I did everything to get the dealer to help me out and all they wanted to do was charge more money and believe me I mean everything. I have also replaced the EGR valve on my own accord just because I thought that might be the problem still to no avail. Thanks for the help.

I recently had my intake (upper) plenum off and saw that the EGR passage was pretty clogged up. I ran a pressure washer through that orifice to clean it out and it seemed to help mine. I don't know wether yours is the same or not, as mine is a 2.3 motor.

Have you checked your EGR tube or that electronic box that has vaccum hoses going into the EGR tube? Just trying to give ideas?

I do greatly appreciate the help. I have not checked the tube from the EGR to the intake. I will do that. I did check all the vacuum lines form the EGR circuit to the sensor. I also replaced that sensor because that is what ford said was bad. Any and all ideas are appreciated.
