Wanting to replace my rusty banged up bed on my 86 ranger shortbed.
Found a stepside on a 95 ranger at the junk yard in great shape.
Wondering if the newer stepside would line up with the bolt holes and gas tank.
Any input would be appreciated.

It has been done. There are some pics somewhere. You can try a search.

It looks pretty good.

Pics when you are done with it.

You need the bed, the fuel filler hose, the rear bumper, and you will have to splice some wiring for the tail lights.

The bed will fit, but the body lines wont match worth a damn.

Couldn't I just put the old wiring in the new bed for the tail lights instead of splicing. Or would they not fit

I dont know, I've never done the swap... I just know what parts you need.

Alright I'll just modify it as needed. Thanks for the input.
I'll be sure to post pics if I decide to do it

my dad and i did it the wiring needs splice the taillights are different the bed will fit but yea the bottom lines wit a good bit lower than the cab lines. good luck and have fun

there's a purple 2nd gen with a splash bed on it ( could be a 1st, don't remember) if i have time i'll try to get pics of it.

I just purchased a 1987 Ranger extended cab with a 2000 step side bed. It looks pretty good. The step part of the bed sticks out a couple inches past the bottom of the cab but other than that it looks pretty nice.
Its missing the bumper though. Still looking for one at area junkyards.

Do you happen to have any pictures of it you could post?
I would really like to see how it turns out

Here ya go

Get the wheel well arches to match and I say it's good.
