ok here we go. I got on here almost a year ago with a problem that seem to have gotten better and I stopped worrying about it but its back and now it will strand me some where. Had trouble with it starting. It would start then quit wait ten sec with ignition on and then it would start and stay running, till about a week ago. I thought I had a fuel pump problem because I would'nt always hear the pump, so I changed it. That wasn't it later hooked a battery to the old pump and it worked fine, tried about 15 more minutes then it started. ran for a week and now its not again did some checking and found out the pump and the spark plugs are not getting power. changed the relay notta. changed the ignition switch notta. some one told me about the EMC check at autozone about 140 dollars. dont want to change if thats not it. my biggest problem is why is this so off and on. and if it is the EMC where is it I have no manual for it and don't know what it looks like please help. matt

This might help - I had a similar problem with a 94 Ranger 3.0L 2WD. At firts I thought it was the fuel pump relay. But further investigation identified the source of the problem as the Electronic Engine Control (EEC) System relay. What tipped me off was that when the truck wouldn't start, the check engine light (CEL) wasn't coming on for a few seconds when I turned the ignition key like the other trouble lights (such as the abs light). Also, when this happened, I didn't hear the "whir" or "hum" from the fuel pump preasurizing the fuel system. The EEC relay is located next to the fuel pump relay in the power distribution box and costs about $10.00 - $15.00 at a parts store. Hope this helps. Good luck.
