So right now the power plug in my '95 ranger stays on all the time, including when the vehicle is off.

I just bought an XM radio and do not like this feature as I have to remember to turn off the radio every time.

Is there a way I can re-wire it so that it will turn off with the truck?

Find some key-on power post and re-run the wire. Not that hard. IIRC the power wire for the radio is right in that area, if you are running a satellite reciever off it it makes sense to only have it powered when the radio is on.

Well, the satellite receiver is just a basic XmSnap. So it plugs (& is powered) by the power plug in my truck & plugs into my radio through aux.

It's just turning out to be a pain that if I don't remember to turn it off, my battery will be dead.

Yeah, I get that. What I'm saying is clip off the power wire for the power port and tap it into the key-on power for the radio. It is a wire that is physically close to the one you are looking at modifying, and since you are powering the sat reciever you don't need it powered if the radio isn't, so that is a logical choice for a power tap.

OK. That actually does make sense. Now for the big question, how the hell do I get in there.

I have an aftermarket radio installed (bestbuy did the install for me). I can provide photos if you need me to.

Take a power probe and test wires until you find one that turns on and off with the truck. Better yet tap off the fuse block on something you know turns on and off. like the actual radio that way you keep the install clean

you will probably have a yellow wire and a red wire that are identified as power (every unit i have installed has been this way) and 99% of the time your red wire will be the switched wire

just out of curisoity, if best buy did the radio install, then they used an adapter to connect to the trucks wiring harness, would the remote wire/antenna provide enough power to run that sat reciever, if he doesnt have an amp to turn on using that wire?

Probably not the remote wire is I think 1.5v and the sat probably requires 9 to 12v
