I have a 95 Ranger with a 7.5 Rear n Crappy Gears, I want a
8.8 Rear With 4.10 Gears in it.. I know most 1998+ Ranger
owners just swap in a Exploder Front Axle, but I dont have
Torsion Bars... I just want to know what Trucks to look for..

I plan on Grabbin an Exploder 8.8 Disc Rear with 4.10s,
n jus swap that under the Rear of my Ranger...

Thank You In Advance...

Thank You,
Mike Tech

A little confused as to which axle you're referring to... :icon_confused:

The 8.8 is a REAR axle, your front will be a Dana 35 (TTB).

The Explorer 8.8" will need the leafspring mounts relocated to the top of the axle, and shock mounts welded to it.

If you change your rear axle gear ratio, the front must be changed to match. Unfortunately the only factory 4.10 D35s that fit your '95 were used in some '90-'92 4cylinder trucks (and a few 2.9L autos), so they aren't real common, but they're out there.

axle swap

if i read this correctly you are trying to do a solid front axle swap? a jeep cherokee or wrangler is gonna be your best bet. the dana 38 is a good axle as well as the danna 44 if you can find one. be prepared i had west wateree offroad help me fab up my sas and even with their knowledge it was a bitch. i recommend you get help from a reputable 4x4 shop

The Front Axle..

I know that Explorers Come with 4.10s.. I Cant use a Exploder FRONT
AXLE on my 95 Ranger cause I dont have Torsion Bars..

What Front Axles can I use that have 4.10s in them??
I plan (am goin to) Roll on 36s n 38s.. The 36s will b for the Street,
the 38s will be for mostly for Car Shows n Crusing..

What Axle Can I use for up front??

No.. I am not doing a Solid Swap...

in that case there is nothing you can really swap..i really dont see a reason to swap either. the dana 35 ttb is the only axle i know of besides the same design only a dana 44 ttb out of an f150 thats gonna fit your truck if you really wanted to. other than that its gonna HAVE to be a solid swap. ive run my 1996 on the stock dana 35 ttb and wheeled tellico north carolina if all you are gonna do is cruise the streets then leave the axles alone other than a regear to 4.10 and focus on suspension lifts

91-94 explorers have the same dana 35 axle as your ranger. not sure what years and the gear ratios as do 92-97 rangers

4.10s never came in a TTB Explorer ('91-'94), the later axles are totally different.

If I were you, I'd regear your existing axle to 4.88 or even 5.13 (along with the 8.8). 4.10 is still waaayyy too tall for 36" rubber (unless you currently have a "hybrid" D28/35, in which case go find any common 3.27 or 3.73 D35 chunk, regear that and swap it in).

Are the 91 to 94 Exploders the same width as the 95+ Ranger Axles??

How would I know if I have a Hybrid Axle?? Im not Doing anything more then
4.10s.. I dont plan on Rebuilding the Rears. Jus a swap.. I dont do Much
Mudding.. I dont need anything more then 4.10s...

all explorer axles are going to be 1.5 inches WIDER than a 93+ ranger axle.

If you're going with 36s or 38s you'll want something deeper than 4.10s unless you plan on dropping a healthy V8 in it.

Front axle is the same width. Rear is 1" wider on the Ex.

What engine do you have?
4.0L = no hybrid (true D35)
3.0L = most likely D35, but hybrid possible.
2.3L, almost guaranteed a hybrid

(You can also check for yourself right here in our Tech Library)

The D35 center chunk (and inner shafts) will directly swap with the hybrid one.

And trust me, 4.10s are gonna suck hardcore with 36s pretty much anywhere (even on the street).

I plan on Putting a SuperCharger On It... It has the 3.45?s on n
Im Rollin on 35s with no Problem.. 4.10s will be just fine for me..

All Exploder Front Axles are the same width at the 95 Ranger Axle???
