I have a 95 Ranger extended cab that has a torn headliner. I was curious as to whether anyone knew the fastest and easiest way to remove the headliner from the truck as well as reinstalling it.

Sorry about the crappy cell phone pic, but here's the fastest way to remove it:

If you don't want to bend it remove one of the seats and try very carefully to get it out that way, but you will bend it a little due to it being bigger than the door.. or you could remove the rear window, or just pull it through the door without removing the seat and bend the hell out of it.

You will have to take the back window out, its bolted in, not too aweful hard, depending on how much the butyl gets messed up, you may need to buy a roll and replace it.

I did mine with the windows and seats in. I did have to take out my center console and shifters. Its nerve racking because you are scared its going to crease the whole time.

You had to take out the seats, console and shifter to replace a headliner?

Unless you want to crease it...you have too. Standard cabs are easy as are super cabs with rear doors. But 2 door Super cabs are a different story. My donor truck had no seats ore dash and it was a breeze.lol

Thanks guys. I ended up taking out both seats and just pulling it out through the passenger door without creasing it. Another thing, since we had the seats out we figured we'd pull the carpet too. The carpet has a bunch of stains that I'd love to get rid of. All the decently priced carpet kits on jcwhitney have wicked bad reviews. Any thoughts on how to just clean the carpet up the best it can be cleaned? wether it's pressure washed, or just scrubbed and so on

Take it to a self-serve car wash and power wash it.

You can always pay a floor cleaning company to professionally steam clean it... Pressure wash was mentioned... or go buy a steam cleaner from the store.

At the bodyshop I work at we have the local cleaning company do car carpet when it needs done, same company that cleans our front office and bathrooms, they do a good job.

I spread my carpet out on the garage floor got it wet and then with a laundry brush scrubbed the living... out of it. After that I hung it over one of the garage beams and rinsed it for about a half our with the hose. We do have above normal water pressure which I am sure helped. It is very clean but.... there are some stains on it that won't come out and it is very faded from time. I have also been looking at what to do to replace my carpet. There are places here that do custom carpet installs but the quality of the carpet is nowhere near what the factory was.

I did find some rubber carpet like material at the builders supply the other day though. It is used for entry floor mats in places like hotel kitchens. It is coarser than carpet but looks like it might work well if you plan to get muddy feet on your floors. Comes in a nice dark grey also.... One advantage would be that it won't mold or mildew and you could always pull it out and blast it clean with the hose.

Yourautotrim.com sells acc molded carpets, they are of pretty good quality, definitely better than jc whitney.
