So I’m looking at getting a ranger and I’ve came across this 95 v6 4.0L manual with 199,000 miles. My question is, is that a lot of miles for the engine? How many miles can these engines take? I know that the Toyota picks can go for 300 plus easy but what about the fords? I had a 98 2.3L and I got sewed the thing couldn’t stay out of the shop and I don’t want that to happen again.

the engines are reliable, but if it's an auto it usually isn't that reliable trans wise.

I drove my 92 ranger with the 4.0 to 353,000 and the only reason it was retired was because the body was rusting off the frame.

I have a 94 4X4 4.0....and its ready to hit 262K.
All stock and get ~ 21mpg. Standard maintenance is all its had.
Its the 5speed with that infamous slave cylinder that needs to be replaced. Its been acting up for about 2 years.
Purchased it in '99 @ 107K . No probs engine wise so far.
