Aren't the mazda motors made by ford and will it work in my 96 explorer. I might be buying a 4.0 out of a 95 b2000 or b2200 and I want to be sure it is the right thing. I am not a ford man so I do not know much. I was given a 96 exploder 4x4 and the push rods were bad and had 204,000 miles, so I would rather replace the motor than fix one with that many miles.

If it has a 4.0L.. it's not a 2200...

Yeah, if a '93-up Mazda has a 4.0 it's not a B2200, it's a B4000.

But for your '96 Explorer any 4.0 engine '95-up will work but you'll have to swap your sensors onto it.

Well I dropped the motor in this morning, I did not have to change any sensors, but I had to change the wiring harnesses. The truck was a 5 speed and my explorer is an auto. I have only a few more things to hook up and it will be running.

Frankly I'd have gotten a set of rocker arms and swapped the pushrods end for end.

It isn't the pushrods so much as it is the rocker arms that go bad, there is a lack of oiling to the pushrod socket on the 4.0 and the socket and pushrod tip gall each other.

you can easily swap out just the bad rockers (all twelve are the same)
and install the pushrods with galled tips the other way around in the engine
(the pushrods are the same and there is no "wiping" friction at the valve lifter end...

Other than that your 4.0 might have been good for another 100,000 miles.
