I have a 90 ranger 2WD the 2.9 has a warrped head and im just going to swap it out for a 302. i have acces to a 95 GT convertable with AODE trans. I plan on using almost this whole car as a swap, engine/trans, wheels, seats amd possibly the center console. my biggest question is.... can i swap the rear axle assy. in w/o it being too narrow? and would this be a good axle swap for a 4-link set up from the looks of the axle it would work ok just not sure about the width

The width is ok, but your better off with an axle from an explorer. The four link setup in the stang would require much more fab work...Also, the 95 stang has OBD2, which is much more involved wiring wise...It would be better to use 89-93 wiring harness....

Ok yeah I thought an explorer axle would be better. The 95 should still be OBD1 did t start OBD2 until 96 right?

OBDII wiring is of no real difference. You're still hooking up a few power, a few grounds.

That Mustang axle would be about 5 or six inches wider than the one in you truck, so an RBV may be easier. But you can use the Traction Lok out of it if you grab a Ranger 8.8...

If this helps here are some pics of a 95 mustang axle I installed in my 86 ranger. You can see how wide it is, you will need to space the front's out to match the width. When i redo the box I plan on cheeting the wheel opening out an inch or so. I wasn't going to use this axle but decided I like the wide stance so I'm gona try to make it work.

Its kind of a crossbreed, like the '95 Explorer. The engine harness and ECM is EEC-IV but the body harness is setup as an OBDII.

Yeah that's a bit too wide I plan on a 4/5 drop

You might be able to play with wheel offsets...

I would skip the Mustang axle for an Explorer though, same work with better fitment and a stronger axle too boot. The 'Stang axle might be worth more to peddle and fund an Explorer axle too.

The Mustang axle is basically the same as a 28 spline 8.8 out of a 4.0 Ranger that will bolt in with no mods required.

That's right, the mustang axle wouldn't be worth the $ or time. As for me I only have $80 in the axle and all four wheels from the stang and it's been gone through with new 3.73s and clutches.
