Just like I said, it cranks but doesn't start. I just put new plugs and wires on it, which it needed anyways.

It ran not long ago (it's one of my uncle's company's trucks, he's hired me to fix it). He said it was backfiring and stalling the last it ran.

It's got 42 PSI at the fuel rail when the ignition is on and the gauge alternates between 40 and 44 when you crank it.

I checked for spark at one plug and it's firing properly.

I tried hooking the voltmeter up to one of the fuel injectors (one lead on the meter to each wire on the injector harness) and it stays at zero even while you crank it. I tried the same think on my explorer and when it is idling the meter flucuates but reads something around 0.3 volts.

That's as far as I've got. I'm starting to suspect a bad engine control computer or faulty/grounded wiring.

Anyone have any ideas?

a little ether or gas into the intake would tell you if fuel is actually making it into the motor or not. it should pop if its got spark then?sorry im not a great mechanic.

Yeah I'm temporarily out of starting fluid. I'll have some in a couple hours though...

Update:

After installing a new cap and rotor, the spark is much better, but it still just cranks and nothing happens. I also got some starting fluid and sprayed plenty down the throttle bodies while someone was cranking. It didn't even sputter for me. It's like the intake valves aren't even opening.

Solved!

Turned out to be a bad crankshaft position sensor and a bad ignition coil. Runs a champ now and is back to guzzling through gas at 12 MPG!!!!

Seriously I think these things cost you more to run (because of gas) than to fix.
