Hey everybody, so ive got a 95 ranger 2wd 4cl 2.3 liter, ive heard that i should lock the rear end. i know i could weld it but i dont want to take that risk, anyone know a good cheap kit i could get, would i need new axials, anything else, ive never done this before so i dont know what i need, what a good brand is or anything. thanks for the help

Hello, Welcome to TRS.

for your particular question, take a gander at the tech library and the Axles section of TRS. there are some good articles/ posts in there that cover your question pretty extensively.

Depending on what you want to spend on it, there are quite a few options you can go for.

But personally, if this is going to be a daily driver, I would *NOT* want to weld lock the rear axle. this will make it steer like ass, the back end will be hopping all over. A locker kit will be a bit better as it will allow the rear to unlock on hard pavement, but it will still be a pain.

You might be better off to swap your current rear axle with one that has limited slip, that will be much more tame on the roads and still give you better traction.
