When a PO of my truck did some rear frame patching they took off the thingus that carries the spare under the bed. It never made it back on. No spare either. Is the stock spare carrier any good? If I had my choice , I would get one from a '71 Datsun pick up. They were a little chain fall that you used the jack handle to lower. The one on the E 150 is a PITA, because the lug wrench is the handle and it is awkward. I imagine the Ranger uses the same rig ? This is my first Ranger, so I have no frame of reference. I am open for suggestions. Is there a better rig out there to look for ?

I thought about using a really small electric winch that was actuated by a key switch in a receptacle near the license plate.

You could always get a bed mount for the spare.
