94 TTB hose question

I have a 94 4l with TTB and on top of the front axel gear cse there is a hose that comes off of the top of the case and goes up about 9 inches and the does a u shape and then stops what is this hose for and is it supposed to be hooked up to somthing. Any help is appreciated.

That would be the vent hose. If you spend a lot of time in the mud and water, you can re-route that hose up to the inner fender a little higher. (although by design, the "s" shape is not supposed to allow for water intrusion, but i wouldn't trust it in deep submersion)

I have always re-routed it on all my trucks, yet i still haven't done any major creek crossings.......
 
There is a hose for your transfer case and rear axle as well. Guys who spend a lot of time in deep water or mud run these hoses up higher, in order to stop water ingestion or clogging of the tube.
