Hi i have a 1996 ford ranger with a 3.0 auto in it that is bad, i am looking at a 94 ranger that also has a 3.0 manual and i was wondering if the engines were compatible and what i would need to do the swap?

i heard from someone that i could change out all of the sensors from the 96 and put them on the 94s engine and it would work but im not sure

Keep all of the 96 electronics and sensors, and the cam synchro, and it will be fine.

I have just tried this swap and still can not get the engine to run. The problem that i have ran into is that the motor runs very rich and will not clean up untill you get above 3000 rpm .... Good luck with your swap

The blocks, and lower intake manifold are the same. The cam grinds didn't change, so unless the drive gear is different for some reason where the distributor/synchro meets the cam you should be able to remove the distributor from the 94 and put the 96 cam synchro right in it's place. The cam synchro is basically the bottom half of a distributor with an electric sensor on top instead of a cap with points.

Yeah, I misread, I thought he was going 96 to 94, not the other way around.
